My Citroen AX 1993 1.0 Debut electrics failed last night - twice! Is it just the battery?

Question:
My AX electrics failed on me last night. It happened twice (go figure). First time I was pulling into a car park, the wipers & indicators were going real slow and the lights were dimming. I had to park up and go somewhere so couldn't look at it there and then. I came back to the car about 90 minutes later and thought I would have a go at starting it - started first time, no problems with the battery, everything working! Drove about 4 miles before the whole thing shut down again, same symptoms. No warning lights have been on for the alternator or anything. Is it likely to just be the battery or something more expensive? After being towed home I've noticed a strange sound coming from under the dash, a bit like radio interference kinda clicking sound. Goes away when I turn the key in the ignition even though the car won't start. What could this be? I half expected (and hoped) that the thing would go on fire last night!

Hello, (not being sarcastic) you've been lucky that Citroen fault comes usually after 5-6 years I think they build it in to their models (not joking) keeps the spares department in business Trevor

Location of resistor pack for blower motor on a 2000 Grand Prix?

it could be a short, your altenator, but chances are the car would go dead, a wire off your altenator, or a sensor or fuse.
