Is it bad to over-torque head bolts if they don't twist off? why or why not?

I had 96 A4, and when I faced this same problem, I traded that car in and got myself something else. I don't know exactly how much it'd be, but considering this is an Audi - it will be very expensive. Plus, it will not be a factory quality transmission - in a year or so you might end up doing this again. Get rid of that car.
