Question:
I have a 88 Corolla GTS fuel injected, that sputters and cranks but doesn't turn over (it backfires as well). And on the rare occasions that it does run (usually if it sits overnight) it'll run for less than 5 minutes and die. I already checked electrical system(battery, plugs, distributor and starter) and I replaced the fuel filter and checked the air filter. The exhaust system is a bit rusty/loud, but I really think it's the fuel pump. When I turn the key into the on position I can hear a faint buzzing but honestly I'm not positive of what I should be hearing in the first place. When I changed the fuel filter I expected more fuel to be spilled, it only trickled.
Before it died completely I noticed it would hesitate and occasionally jerk around when accelerating. The transmission/clutch and engine is fine. Also, if anyone happens to know anything else about the pump (mechanical/electric?, location?) and what places will test the pump after I take it out that would be great. Thanks

Sorry, but this does sound like the fuel pump. Good luck. Can throwing hot water on a windshield that's frosted over crack the windshield?
i agree with the other guy.it sure sounds like a fuel pump.why dont you run a test on the pump to see if its got the right pressure and volumn.98 pont/transport ,engine shutdown at idle or while breaking?
Take the filter back off and rout the line into a jar or something. Put out you cigar and turn the key on. You should get a pretty good jet of gas for a second if the pump is good.yes sounds like fuel pump i just went through same thing with my 1996 plymouth neon so when starting your vehicle it sounds like ur not getting gas to it
