With the truck not running your battery should have 12.5 volts or more, you can also check for slipping fan belts. They sell a spray you can put on the belts while the truck is running but be careful.how to put on a Alternator on ford truck?
1. Most likely - It is possible you have a battery that will no longer hold a charge. If your alternator and regulator are working (that is, you have 12-15.5 volts at the battery while the engine is running), then your charging system is probably working OK & you may need to replace the battery. Parts stores can test your battery for you.can you fit a 200tdi discovery engine on to a 90 landrover gear box?
2. Least likely but I've seen it happen - In case your battery might just be OK, make sure you have nothing in your truck that is draining the battery. Turn your ignition switch to "off", then turn off all lights and accessories, then disconnect one battery terminal (it doesn't matter which) and connect a test light between the open battery terminal and the cable you just removed. If the tester lights up, you have something on that should not be. Double check everything is off - including the dome light if the door is open. If you have to, start pulling fuses until the light goes out. Once you figure out which fuse made the light turn off, check that circuit for possible bad components.
Probably the battery is no longer holding a charge if it's a few years old. Take it to an auto parts store and have it tested.
I havent changed the oil in my car for 3 years. Its making a knocking sound, is that bad?
With the car off disconnect the battery and hook up an amp meter to see if there is a drain. Also you can have your charging system checked at an auto parts supply to see if it is charging. Also have you battery checked under load while you are there to see if it is your battery. You may also have a loose connection to your battery. Check all connection including the ground to your block. Also check to see if your negative battery connector is also grounded with the body. I hope that this helps you.More Questions & Answers ...
