Why wont my 2001 s10 xtreme start?

Question:
ok so when i try to start it, it sounds like it is turning over and sometimes it will even act like it will start but if i give it gas or dont give it gas it still just shuts off. it has a newer alternator in it so that shouldnt be the problem.

Sounds like a fuel pump problem - this thing requires 41+ PSI pressure to start which in conjunction with really bad fuel pump makes the described condition more than typical.

Check the basics, such as spark plugs, air filter, fuel pump, and such. Your battery could also be bad. Also, check the ignition coil, that could definitely be the problem.
