If my car doesn't work because of my timing belt, do I need to change the whole system or just the belt?

Question:
My car is not starting because of my timing belt, do I need to replace the whole system or just the timing belt itself. And if its just the timing belt how hard can it be. What are the price ranges to get that fixed.

Whats the average cost to get a body lift installed on a 93 Z71 Blazer?

Depends on the vehicle, timing belt is your internal drive belt. If your car has a "interferance" engine it could have been damaged beyond repair upon breakage (valves hitting piston). If not you should always replace your timing belt tensioner while the belt is being replaced due to the fact that many timing belts fail because of the tensioner. Timing belt jobs range from $350-$800 all depending on the type of car and motor. Good luck.

Why is my 2.8 liter engine in my 1993 GMC Sonoma running so rich that it fouls the plugs?

If it's the timing belt, you first have to know if it's a broken timing belt or maybe a timing belt tensioner that seized and broke the timing belt. Next, you have to know if you have interference or non-interference valves. You should hope non if you broke a timing belt. If they are interference, that means the valves protrude from the head when the cylinder is at a low point (won't collide). If the belt breaks and the valves are extended and the piston rises and hits it, you could have bent valves, holes in the piston top, etc. ($$$$). If you can, post the type of car to find out if the engine is interfernce or non-interference. Also, if the timing belt is broken, when you try to start, you would hear a constant whine of the engine instead of a chug-chug-chug-chug because there's no compression. The cost for a timing belt depends on the vehicle involved. Some are easy to get to. Some require removal of a lot of engine items so they cost more.

I have a 1989 Merkur Scorpio and the a/c and heater is not working?

Some cars the valves hit the pistons is the engine is not timed correctly or if the belt breaks. If you are unsure what you are doing take it to a garage. If it's just a belt the prices in other answers are probably pretty close, if valves are bent then it will be very expensive.
