Question:
The gas tnak has been bone dry for the last 3 weeks, so i put a gallon of gas in it, and jumped my battery. Went to turn it on...nothing, so i figured, well the engine cant turn over, so obviously theres no gas getting to the engine, since it was bone dry after all. So went back down to gas station, filled up 1 gallon gas can, and directly poured the gas into my Fuel Injector Head, recharged car (there was about 12 hours in between), went to turn it on, it *almost* turned over, but i just get a clicking sound, and the other 1/2 of the time theres no clickign at all. Its a 89 Pontiac Sunbird, Overhead Cam, Fuel Injection, I live in florida,so weather isnt to bad right now

If your battery isn't holding a charge, then it is your problem.

If you only hear "clicking" after you've charged the battery for hours and have added the gas, then it's your starter not engaging.
Whats wrong with my 2002 Grand Am GT?
If you hear the engine is actually turning for a while, and then clicking without trying to turn over anymore, then you're not getting gas and you're running the battery dry while trying.
Given the car is so old and is a Pontiac, there are a lot of possible electronics or parts that could be bad, anyone of them is your issue now. My top 3 estimates of the problem are the battery, the starter, the fuel pump.

The 'clicking' could be the solenoid. It's not getting enough battery power. Try a new battery, fully charged.i have a 92 Lincoln continental and i hear a ticking sound when i press the gas what could it be?

I think you poured too much gas in the intake area, it normally only takes a couple tablespoons max.The plugs are probably fouled now.
Do this and it should start:
why do you not fill your tires with air on a cold day?
1. Put 5 gallons more gas in the tank to make sure the fuel pump isn't sucking air.
2. Change the spark plugs.
3. 2 or 3 quick squirts of starting fluid in the intake hose.
4. Attempt to start engine
5. Repeat step 3/4 up to 5 times.
6. If it's still not starting, post here again.

On a DOHC, is the "camshaft housing cover" and the "cylinder head" the same thing?
that clicking sound is your starter. so either u have a weak battery or a bad starter. i think its your battery. the starter stops making that clicking sound after a a couple of tries because it has drained all the power from the battery. you problly have a bad battery cell. have it tested at a local auto parts store. they should do it for free.More Questions & Answers ...
