How hard is it to change an Oxygen sensor on a 2001 Chevy Tracker?

Question:
The mechanic wants to charge $500+ to do it and says the part is around $220. This seems high and I'm tempted to try and change it myself. However I'm new to this stuff so I was wondering what the difficulty level is. I know on standard vehicles it is supposed to be pretty straight forward, but my Tracker is 4CYL/4WD. Does this make it more difficult and that is the reason for the $300+ labor fee? Any help is appreciated.

Go to the Chevy parts counter and ask to see the oxygen sensor. I've never heard of one costing that much. It can be located in the exhaust pipe very close to where it's bolted to the exhaust manifold. In your case they may need to disconnect many things to get at it. If you don't get a good answer there, try Car Quest, NAPA or Advance Auto in that order. Car Quest and NAPA sell exhaust systems ask to see the primary pipe and it'll show where the sensor is. Good Luck
