Whats wrong with my power steering?

Question:
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and one day out of the blue my power steering started acting up. So i checked under my hood and i did not have a power steering cap! I knew it was important to get another one immediately so i did. The minute after i put the cap on i start having really bad problems with my steering. I have to use both hands to turn the wheel. My truck kinda shakes when i drive it and my steering wheel swings left to right aggressively and it is really starting to be a problem. I already checked the power steering fluid and it was full but the only problem with that was it was completely black. It looked like old oil. I have replaced the power steering fluid several times by circulating it but it still turns out black a week later. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Far as "simple pictures" go,,,,,,this is about as close to the actual device as you can get short of a parts blow up.

Starting the car?

* Pump Pressure is in CONSTANT circulation
*Note the Single Piston
*Steering wheel is connected Directly to the Rotary Valve.
* Turning the Steering wheel Turns the "PINION GEAR" to perform the Manual Gear-Drive Function of Turning the road wheels L & R
*And it ALSO rotates the Hydraulic Valve into appropriate Port Position to Direct the Pump Pressure which adds the "Power Boost"
*Pressure is applied to ONE side OR the OTHER,,,according to the rotary valve direction
