Can the a/c be replaced in a 1988 Toyota Corolla?

Put a slightly bigger pulley on the motor and you should get enough rpm's to saw efficiently. My dad did the same thing and his works fine.

1982 rabbit vw?

It would not work properly. That motor was intended for washing machine use only plus it is not as powerful as the motor you're trying to replace. Contact Sears and see if it's possible for you to order the right size motor for your saw or just buy a brand new saw all together.
