Question:
We recently acquired a car hauling company and I know little to nothing about trucking. We have a 2003 Peterbuilt tractor hooked up to a 2003 Cottrell trailer, with regular maintence how many years or miles can we expect it to run before needing replacement?

sorry cafrin meant to say car had a service a few months ago but well observed lol?
theres a alot of different things that could make your decision in how long to keep it, i personally own a 1995 tractor with 1.6 million miles on it, It all depends on how you take care of it. With regular maintenence by someone who knows what their are doing , go ahead and plan on a million BUt you also have to remember these trucks are worked so hard for so many miles you have be prepared for the worst it can happen when you least expect itinstallingwaterpumpon97oldsmobile 88?

Probably around 600k - 800k miles..what do you think about driving w/ out a maf?
Heavy Duty Diesels...they'll last around 1 million miles until your next rebuild if you take care of it!A well maintained diesel will last a very long time. I've heard up to a million miles. You want to do regular maintenance. Cause I dont think anything on them is cheap.

Thats like asking "how long is a piece of string?" Depends a lot on how it was used/abused by the previous owner(s).Present mileage and engine make would be handy. If it's got a Cat in her I would suggest doing a bearing roll - big ends and mains, about 1/2 million mile mark and cams are an issue in their later motors.
Honestly, having been there and done that a number of times here in Oz, you can only take it as it comes. No amount of conjecture will make it go any further.
You know the saying "if its got **** or tires, it'll be trouble"
