My 1998 Passat TDi has about 1/10th the normal power and makes a loud wooshing noise?

What do you reckon it is? Sounds like a space ship. My wife's car is buggered too so can't get mine into the garage for a while even though it goes slow, at least it goes!

OK well check your turbo and the turbo components to see if every things OK the swooshing noise is the turbo make sure the intake port is OK

If the engine idles normally then try checking the exhaust pipe to insure the CAT or the muffler is not plugged. When vehicle is in neutral have someone rev the engine a bit to see if you get a good strong exhaust flow, if not then you have a solution. If this is not the problem then pop the hood with the engine running and listen around as you work the throttle. Just be careful not to get caught in any moving parts. Determined where the sound is coming from.
