Best shocks and struts?

By your experience what is the best shocks and struts for cars?

at night when i come to a stop in my pickup, the headlights dim a little and return to normal when i take off.

Depends on the car to some degree, but in my experience, KYB shocks and struts are the best quality for the money. They are made in Japan and have better features that lend themselves to longer life and a quality ride. I have seen cut-a-ways between KYB, Monroe, and Gabriel and it is not even close. KYB is beefier and better machined than either of the other two major manufacturers. You can buy KYB at Federated Auto Parts Stores and Carquest for sure.
