i own a repair shop,and is it actually the transfer case?,if it is you can put it back in, at the case,and you know for sure,but unless its slipping out at the case it shouldn't go in neutral,i have owned and still own a few jeeps,and the lever will move if its the transfer case you can adjust the linkage on it and that will help it some,it may be binding,and that will knock it out, id try that first.good luck with it,i hope this help,s.
