Question:
I just bought this car 2 weeks ago and it only has 72,000 miles on it and runs great except for it shutting off when completely stopped. I took it to run a diagnostics test and the mechanic came up with a few things of why it could be shutting off but the main thing he said to replace was the solenoid valve. My father (ex mechanic long time ago) looked at it without a comp. and said it was the idle and it was too low so he said he could make it higher and it should be fine. Should I change the solenoid valve? and is that the cause of my problem with the car shutting off or was it just the idle and it shouldnt shut off anymore?

How can you tell if your Catalytic Converter has gone bad?
Bad thing, though, is with this disconnected, the engine runs at a higher RPM at highway speeds, and your mileage will suffer, around 2-4 miles per gallon. In the long run, it will be less expensive to replace the solenoid.
1988 olds delta 88 missfires when warm not when cold, what could it be?
There are several solenoid valves, which one? Your idle control valve might be not working which is where you should start.More Questions & Answers ...
