Question:
i need to weld 2.5" aluminum piping together for a custom intercooler system for my car. the piping is of average thinkness, between 1/16" and 1/8" think walls. i am thinking of purchasing a small $100 welder such as a 90 amp mig wire welder that does not use gas. it can plug into a 110 outlet. could this work?
Answers:
what are the first 10 things you'd buy for your car?
Use a TIG welder. It uses gas. Your wire feed welder can be adapted to add a bottle to it.Yeah, just follow the directions and keep your heat down.
changing starter on '93 S10 4.3 4X4...can't remove, too tight!?
TIG welder is better for thin aluminum. But go to a welding shop, they'll do it for you for 20 bucks.
Can a tire rotation reveal the need for an alignment?
You need Mig or TigTig is good for thinner sections
and
Mig for thicker material
My 88 F-250's cold start problem.?
You would do better with a TIG welder. You have more control for that thin metal. 1/8th" would be very hard to MIG, 1/16th" would be almost impossible. TIG is the way to go. But if this is the only job you need a welder for why not get it done at a shop?i have a ford fiesta 1.1lx with the engine and brake problem?
let a pro do it. go to welding school over the summer.More Questions & Answers ...
