The Mrs hit a curb with a 98 Escort now there is a hissing sound?
Go figure - it IS a GM product, what did you expect, accuracy? You need to list more details if you want an answer. Are they reading low, high, intermittently? What affects their operation? Starting the car, turning lights on/off, etc....? Could be the wiring plug, intrument cluster, brain.
Sounds like poor battery connections and/or poor frame grounding. Check+ cable at starter connection for tightness. Many GM's benefit by adding additional ground wires from the battery to the body. Also check alternater + battery connection for tightness. This vehicle is now old enough for corrosion to become a factor as well as battery life and condition. Don't assume anything at this point and if in doubt throw it out. High quallity replacements put money in the bank.
