I have a 99 ford ranger 4x4 w/ abs.. The brake peddle goes to the floor. AFTER this started happening I went ahead and changed the brakes wheel cylinders calipers drums and rotors all the way around, and bled the system throughly there is no air in the system anywhere and the back brakes are adjusted correctly, tight but not too tight. With out the engine running the brakes feel great, but as soon as you start it up the feel like crap and go to the floor. Like I said this started befor I did anything to the brakes, could this be the abs system?? andy ideas would be appreciated thanx

Those are the symptoms of a bad master brake cylinder.what is an engine number and where is it located?
Have the ABS brake control module,and control valve(under hood near master cylinder),inspected by a QUALIFIED technician.it is not wise to try repairs on these units or to use recycled parts(junk yard).Cold air blowing when heater is on?

i own a repair shop,and there is a different procedure for bleeding abs brakes ,they work a lot different than regular brakes do,i usually gravity bleed them its the best and only way to remove all the air from them it takes a while but it works well just make sure you keep the master cylinder full at all times when doing this,good luck i hope this help,s.,,PS if you gravity bleed them and they seem to loose pedal again you may have to replace the master cylinder on it.Help! it's 18 degrees outside and the water in my raditor is frozen!?
Try clamping off the rubber part of the brake hoses, does the peddle still fall to the floor?If so, then you have a bad master cylinder, if the pedal goes hard, try loosening the clamps off one by one, starting at the rear hose.

If the pedal is still hard, then loosen the right front hose, if it's still hard then do the left side, if the pedal falls to the floor then it is the caliper at that location.
If the pedal went down when you loosened the rear then the problem is at the rear wheels.
I assume you probably have rear disc brakes, if so, then you probably have individual hoses at each wheel if you do then whenever you loosen the clamp this is the wheel with the problem.

Try not to over-clamp th3e hoses as this may injure the inner linings of the hoses, Good Luck.

The ABS system failure would not cause this problem, the ABS failure would just cause the wheels to lock up like if it was equipped without ABS.where is a starter situated on a mondeo st24?
It sounds like you still have air in the system, rusty brake line or broken hose, or a defective master cylinder diaphragm.

You should have top off the reservior, then park it on a dry pavement, get under the truck to see if there was brake fluid leaking from anywhere while pumping, it may have saved you $$$ in replacing the calipers and drum cylinders.
But do so now and see if its leaking anywhere,if it is then fix the leak, but if not then re-bleed the brakes and then go after the master cylinder.
