Hello! I just changed new aftermarket brake pads on my 1997 Maxima. Then I heard weird noies from right rear everytime I hit brake. The sound is like grind, grind, grind. I went to an auto shop to check out the problem. The guy told me to change back to new original Nissan pads for 120 dollars. He said that may solve the problem. But not guarantee. So should I go for it? Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

There has to be another problem. OE (original equipment) brake pads really should not make a difference. Go to another shop & have them put the car on a lift, remove the tire. There may be a problem with one of the brake hoses.My truck leaks power steering fluid, how much to fix it?

It very well may be that you need the original brand name parts for your Nissan. That happened to me with my VW Golf, except mine was even more of a nightmare cuz it turned out to be a half year model! Meaning some parts from one year and other parts from the next. Those wonderful Germans....Anyways, I'd try the $120 parts. But go to a garage that will try something else with no additional charge if that doesn't fix the problem. You may want to consider what Pedro above me is suggesting, also.

Sometimes pads suffer crystalization due to violent weather changes. I'd ask for another opinion on wether to change your pads once again, as long as it doesn´t affect the brakes' performance, guess you can bear a little noise...

Take a look at the offending wheel it may just be something simple, particulary, as it is only one wheel causing the problem. I have had this before and cured it by removing the pads cleaning all the parts and smearing a very small amount high temp copper loaded grease on the metal shims and piston contact areas. However, have a good look at the disc because if it is badly scored or worn this could also be the cause. If this is the case new disc and pads will be required.What everyone is saying are good recommendations, but it could also be that there is nothing wrong with your brakes, my suggestion is to get a 2nd opinion. OEM parts are not always the correct answer, it could be as simple as re-aligning the backing plate, shims, or even a loose bolt.

semi metallic or ceramic?
