how much should i expect to pay for a new timing belt and water pump on a '98 ford escort being fixed in a shop? I told someone the problem with it...and he said go to the front of the car and look at the grill area...the answer is circled and in blue for me...lol...thanks

If you are going to replace the timing belt, I would recommend replacing the drive belt as well, as they are known to wear quite frequently. Both are very inexpensive parts, even from the Ford dealer. Why are you interested in replacing the water pump? Is it leaking? I have never heard of the water pump on your particular car to leak coolant. I have however, seen a lot of radiator leaks on your particular car. Where they always leak, is on the left/front corner of the radiator. The radiator is about a couple hundred dollars from the dealership, although I don't know the exact amount in U.S. dollars. Here are the part numbers to ask your local Ford dealer for the prices of: JK6-512-E (drive belt), F7CZ-6268-AA (timing belt), F5CZ-8005-A (radiator). Hope this helps.
