Okay, I bought a 2003 Dodge Durango from a dealer about 6 months ago, and about 2 weeks ago my Durango died as I was waiting on a hill to go through a red light. When it came back on the Check Engine light came on, and it will die sometimes when I am driving, and when I was going to get on the interstate and I pushed the accelerator pretty hard it acted like I was red lining (I wasn't) and it started jerking. What does this mean, and what kind of $ am I looking at fixing this?

well the first step it going to find out what the engine light is on for. The code that has set in the computer will steer you in the right direction. Cost is going to be determined by what is wrong. When the check engine light came on 2 weeks ago, and you took it in to be scanned, what error codes came up on the scan? That would be the first clues as to what is wrong, and give you some idea of what the costs would be.user manual for chevy cavalier 2002 model?
The symptoms you are giving could be several things, it could be the TPS (throttle position sensor) not feeding the right signal, it could be the fuel pump not having enough pressure, especially when accelerating. It could be a dirty fuel filer. It could be bad O² sensors making the engine run too rich on one or both banks, and it could be a failing catalytic converter. You won't know until you take it in and have the error codes scanned.
By the sound of things it's getting worse, so I would not wait much longer unless you want the expense of a tow to the mechanic instead of driving it in.

The only way to know for sure is to have the check engine code read.This will tell the mechanic where to look for the problem.Till that is done it;s anybodys guess about whats wrong and how mush it will cost to repair it.More Questions & Answers ...
