Truck drives when trying to put into drive?

Question:
I'm having trouble trying to figure out why the truck is not charging. If you have any clues please let me know.

my truck belt is squeaking and the belt is pretty brand new whats wrong?

If you have a volt meter put the cables across the battery terminals with vehicle shut off,read the voltage it should be about 12-13 volts if the battery is charged up. Then start vehicle and read voltage it should be about 14 volts if it is charging, if not 1st check alternator belt and make sure it is fairly tight.if thats ok it's probably the alternator that is bad.One of the parts stores would probably do this free for you..
