I have an Mgf and the head gasket has gone. Looking for someone to fix it in Essex/East London area that isnt gonna try and rip me off ;-) Seems like everywhere i take it they try and take the p coz im female. If anyone knows someone who can help pleeeeaaaassseee get in touch. Ta

It`s worth looking on the MG owners club website, even if your not a member you will still have access to recommended garages / services by area. It`s not a cheap fix though, it should cost you somewhere in the region of £600 - £1000, dependent if the head requires replacement or just skimming. Ensure that whoever does the job changes the stretch bolts though.

Why does my cars engine cut out when I slow down?
There have been articles on doing this in both the MGOC and the MGCC recently. If it is only the gasket it is not too big a job but if the block or head have been subject to blow by it costs lots as they are alloy and crystallise.The gasket used must be of the latest - note that word carefully - type and preferably the bolts and the oil gallery which holds the bottom end of the bolts upgraded to the ones used on the Land Rover which has the same K series engine.
