"I have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. Recently the climate control appears to be malfunctioning.
- When I set the Automatic Climate Control to 71, the heater kicks in BIG TIME once the car warms up. I mean that the temperature goes up to a level where it feels as if I'm driving in a sub-saharan desert.
- I thought the thermostat may be on the fritz, so I switched to the manual heat. Instead of hitting the "Auto" button, I hit "Floor". Same thing. The heat goes way up.

It is a tight space, but you need to get a look under the hood between the engine and the firewall and follow vaccum lines including couplings checking for leaks. The control units are not known to go bad, so the probability is in a leak somewhere
A vaccum leak could also be a reason for intermittant stalling.
You may have a leak in your system have them check for a freon leak, the compressor may come on but if there is no freon it wont get cold
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak you need to fix.The system defaults to heat when a vacuum problem exist.
