OBD port doens't seem to be work!?

Question:
I took my 1998 Chevy S-10 4 Cylinder 2.2 liter in to get inspected. The mechanic plug the machine in to the OBD port on my truck. The truck was in acc and everything but the machanics machine could not read my vehicle like the OBD port was not working on my truck. What could be causing this? I haven't done anything major to my truck in the past year except change a windsheild wiper fuse and change the altnator. My truck passed inspection at the same garage a year ago. What is going on here that the OBD port in not working. I really need to pass the inspection so I don't have to pay a huge fine!

i have a question regarding the benefits regarding a three angle valve job?

The OBD port primary connects to your vehicles computer so you need to trace from the plug to the computer to make sure all wiring and connections are good. However, before you go to all this trouble try another mechanic, as his scanner may be better or? If you get a good connection then, stay away from the first garage.
