Can a defective clock in the radio drain your battery?
The only problem is that it precipitates out of solution and settles inside the radiator and heater core. Over time, this residue builds up and plugs up the radiator and it inhibits the free flow of the coolant.
A radiator shop can "rod out" your core for you if it's a brass & solder radiator. If you have an aluminum core/plastic tank radiator, you're going to have to buy a new one. I've only encountered one shop that was equipped to dis-assemble a plastic tank radiator, but they are now out of business.

Unfortunately, radiator shops don't like messing with heater cores, you may have to buy a new one.
