How do I get my 1996 mazda 626 motor low enough to remove to crankcase pully?
Basically what happens is that as the timing belt is what makes the shafts (camshaft + crankshaft) that make the pistons + valves go up & down rotate in a sequence they don't end up hitting each other, no longer having that belt there means there's still one or more valves open.......... and as the pistons are still moving up and down........... WHACK! they slap into one or more valves, bending them so they're at an angle, instead of straight........ if you've never seen one, a valve is like metal rod with a disk on the end, and when closed (to stop fuel/air getting in, or combustion gas getting out) they sit flush in a hole (I guess a bit like a counter-sunk woodscrew. Obviously, if the end is bent (and the belt no longer makes them move up & down, due to the fact it has snapped) they can neither sit flush in the hole or allow the fuel/air mix or combustion gases in & out of the engine........ and thus the engine will no longer work properly.
Bust sounds serious, probably just a bent valve or a broken piston, still very expensive. Probably cheaper to get a junkyard engine than repair, makes changing a timing belt sound cheap.

i own a repair shop, and if its a 0-tolerance engine or what we call an interference engine, yes it will cause a lot of damage to it,usually more than you want to repair, but I'm not sure on that one if it is or isn't,some people say it is,i don't have access to my data base right now to check it with, good luck,i hope this help,s.Is there something I can put in my radiator to seal a leak?
if an engine is an interference engine, yes it will cause damaged to the top end of your engine, mostly on the valves causin it to bent or put a dent in the piston.worst case scenario you need to pull out the cylinder head to perform repair.still would cost a bit of cash to get fix.get it check out and find out if it is worth saving.1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Engine Revving Problems?
no, a lot of damage may occour, if the engine would burst, they would create a mechanism better than a belt .. it only makes sense. make a suggestion to mythbustersHeating problem for a 2003 sebring sedan?
Could very well do damage to the valves(which would then mean pulling the heads and doing repairs) - IA hell of alot more work and cost than changing a $20 timing belt and an hours worth of work.So why chance it. Do it every 60,000 mile interval and you will be safe.
