How do you set the timing on a Ford 4.0 SOHC?

Question:
I am replacing the timing chain cassettes and want to make sure the engine is timed properly. Is there a reference manual on how to set it properly? Haynes and Chiltons do not have the info.

Answers:

Scratched hood?

in order to set the timing chains properly, you will need a few specialized tools to due this job. there are a total of 3 chains in a 4.0. one on each head that run the cams and one that runs the counter balance shaft in the rear of the passenger head. haveing done this job before its not very easy with out the special tools. try going to a dealership and see if the ppl in the parts dept. will let you get a copy of the service manuel pages that cover the replacement. from time to time you will get a customer service rep that is pretty cool with that type of stuff. if you cant get it there, try a service shop that has the all data systems and see if they will make you a copy of it. be ready for some aggrivation in this job and for your own sake be patient with it.
