Car Defrosters?

Question:
Why is it that when one defrosts the windscreen of a car,(full heat) the A/C compressor kicks in. This happens to all the cars I have driven with Air Conditioning.

This is on all cars with A/C. Reason is the as the outside air is drawn in it goes through the A/C and the moisture condenses on the elements. Then through the heater core and gets warm. So you have warm DRY air to defrost your glass.

Ever see a car on a hot day sitting, idling with the A/C on and water dropping on the ground? Same principle, the moisture in the air condenses on the A/C before entering the cockpit.
