Is it necessary to use Lexus dealer to change my LS430 oil?

Question:
Lexus dealer charge anywhere from 130 to 150 dollars for 5000 mile oil change. I have LS430 2005 and I would like to cut the cost of maintenance on my car. I was told Lexus has special gasket on oil filters, so the mechanics has to know what they are doing. Is it safe to use neighborhood mechanic for maintenance or is Lexus dealer absolutely necessary for this.

As long as you use the correct oil and filter, you can have the job done anywhere. I would recommend you find a good independent shop, and stay away from the quick lube places!!

The dealer will always say that they are the best place to get your car serviced. The shop provides most of the profit in a dealership!

You will be able to get it changed at any Jiffy Lube for
less than $30....Wal-Mart for less than $20...
You would be a fool to get it changed at the dealership
for $130 - $150...

hi. is it better or worse to wrap headers?

I would go to the neighborhood Oil guy (like Jiffy Lube) unless your maintenance warranty contract with the dealer requires that they do ALL of the maintenance, including changing the oil.

Call your local Jiffy Lube (or whomever you choose) and ask them about any special handling required on your Lexus.

I would keep on taking it to your Dealer until the warranty is up. I used to work in a Lube shop and to tell the truth, some of them are very good and I would completly trust, other of them I wouldn't even trust them with a car i pulled out of a junk yard. Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire, have screwed up more oil changes then they get right, I have at least 5 people a week come into the shop saying that Wal-Mart did this, Canadian Tire did that, I would never bring my truck to either one of them (if i didn't work in a garage), I wouldn't trust them with an 18 year old Ford Ranger, let alone a Lexus. If you bought a Lexus you can afford dealer repair and maintance prices, and if you can't then the car was out of your price range. If you by a luxury car then expect to pay higher prices. I work in a garage and (if i'm thinking of the right modle) the oil filter is quite pricy, and with synthetic oil, you're looking at about $120CDN (at my shop and thats just basic on the last lexus I did, it was a 2004) and that wasn't a bad price. Take it to the dealer until the warranty is up, or if you have a mechanic that you have been taking your car to for years and years, and know and trust (and know him by name), then I would take it there.

Is there anything I can do to get spray paint off my car?

To answer your question: NO, it is not necessary to take your Lexus to the Dealer for an Oil Change but it is highly recommended. The first few thousand miles are critical to good maintance on your newly broken in engine. The best thing to do if your looking for an economical solution is to look at your Owner's Manual see what Oil Grade is recommended for your Mileage, buy the 'Factory Filter' (Very Important) at the dealership and have an outside mechanic take care of it for you. You'll spend half of the amount.

what is the best/easiest way to defrost a cars windows??

I believe dealer is robbing you. I wouldn't recommend a quickie oil change shops such as jiffe lube either, I have heard they hire inexperienced people . Any competent neighborhood garage can change it for you. Nothing difficult about the job. If anyone suggests synthetic oil question that! Also , save your receipt's for warranty purposes.
