Question:
We replaced the cv shaft once and drove it for approximately 1 mile and we lost all power to the front end because the shaft broke. We towed it back into the shop, replaced the shaft again and before they gave it back to us they wanted to test drive it. While they were driving it the shaft broke again and had to tow it back into the shop. When the "mechanic" from the shop called me they said that it was the broken motor mounts causing the shaft to break. A guy that my fiance works with said that it is highly unlikely for the motor mounts to break and even if they did, the motor wouldnt bend down enough to put pressure on that shaft causing it to break. Then I talked to 3 other people and they said that it doesn't sound right. Please help me out so that I know what kind of people I'm dealing with. Are they just trying to take as much money from me as they can since I'm a female who doesn't know much about cars? HELP!

Where can i find all the black bumpers and trim to clone my 86 regal t-type to a grand national?
broken motor mounts would allow the engine to try and rotate under load. If the mounts were old or never been replaced they could very well be broken and cause the related problem. I had a vehicle that broke the exhaust manifold from a broken motor mount. hope this helpsWhy isn't water spraying from my rear windscreen washer?
First of all the motor does not go down when you excelerate, on front wheel drive it goes up and back, what it is doing is pulling it out of the socket when it raises up do to the broken motor mount, seen it before. You've gotten at least a few good answers here, but I want to add the following: Since broken motor mounts can cause problems throughout the driveline, they should have been inspected before allowing your car to touch the ground. I would say that shop owes you at least a hearty appology, and not charge you for two axles, it is likely that they will charge you for the mount and install. They may elect to give you a discount, I would recommend being as cordial as you can even as a disgruntled customer. Also, bear this in mind, mechanics are people and make mistakes, if they are reputable, they will own up to it. And, many of the big chains, like Meineke, Firestone, Tire Kingdom, etc. hire young mechanics, with little experience. This is good and bad, it gives these guys that much needed experience, but it may (or may not) come at the cost of getting shotty work done on your vehicle. Also, my last thought for you, even if you don't know what you're looking at, always ask to see the 'faulty' parts. If it's a bad motor mount, it will be quite obvious with it removed. Good Luck
