Question:
My 1994 Mazda B3000 pickup has a problem going into drive first thing in the morning. I put it in reverse and back up, then switch it to drive forward and it doesn't find the gear. I will put it back in park and then try again. If I give it some gas, eventually it will jump into gear and the car will lunge forward. I can drive down the street, stop at a stop sign, and it will kick out of gear again and I have to do it all over. It will do this for 5 minutes or until the truck is warmed up. Then I won't have any problems the rest of the day. Part of me thinks the transmission is going out, but part of me thinks there is something else going on that might be able to be adjusted. It seems odd that the cold has an impact on my transmission. Anyone have any advice? Thank you.

ur trans fulid is to low or to think have it replaced and flushed before u condem it

you might want to change your trans. filter and fluid. its surprising what low fluid will do.Sounds like the seals are starting to get hard. This is usually more noticable in cold weather becasue cold makes the seals stiffer and takes longer for them to soften and close to make the seal. It will work better in reverse beause the trany has more internal pressure in reverse. Reving the engine builds more pressure and fluid flowing past the seals causes the seals to expand.
If it seams to work ok once things have warmed up, this is the problem and you are looking at a rebuild in the near future.
They do sell (A rebuild in a Can) whick is an additive but all it does is rot the seals and makes them swell. This is a short term fix and is not advised.
If you get enough slippage, it will burn the fiber off the clutch packs and become metal on metal, then for the most part the trany is trash.
What happens if you mix premium gas with unleaded gas?
It sounds like the modulator valve is bad. If you have changed the fluid recently and the problem persists, change the modulator valve before spending big bucks for a new trans. Also, on some vehicles produced in the 90's, there are fuses that can also cause problems for the transmission. The only way to be sure it is NOT the transmission first is to start the vehicle in the morning and allow it to run until the engine is completely warmed up before driving. If the problem is only occuring early in the morning, chances are you are not allowing sufficient time for the trans fluid to ciculate through the gears. THIS IS A MUST! Otherwise the gears get hot and cause the transmission to "shove" into gear. Over time, the transmission will fail due to improper fluid circulation and damage to the gears. If the problem starts to continue after the vehicle warms up, change the modulator valve and check the fuse panel(s) to see if you have a fuse for the transmission. I had a 1994 Saturn SL2 that had the same problem with the modulator valve. Hope this information helps. What's the difference between fuel injection tanks and carburator fuel tanks?
Could be a dirty filter. Transmissions run off pressure and when the filter gets dirty you lose pressure.More Questions & Answers ...
