Fact is that there are only two major battery manufacturers left in the US, Exide and Johnson controls. they make them or contract smaller operations to make them. The battery from the Dealer sat on a shelf for up to a year then it was shipped out. There is a date code burned into the case or laser printed on the case. This also has the group number on it.. If you need a Gel battery that will be advised in the group number or part number on the label of the battery....

all you need to is to make sure your cca =cold cranking amps match or exceeds your old battery ,and the post are round the right way,i go to work and see car batterys all day coming down the assembly line
