Question:
This van runs great and does not give us many problems, until now. It has 140,000 miles and we expect to drive it until it dies. Would you install a rebuilt transmission for $1,500 or a new one for $2,500?
Answers:
how would you run the electrical wiring for a light switch to turn on and off a ceiling fan?
$2500 is more than the Van is worth. Best bet is to consider it dead now, and look for it's replacement. Sure, a new or reman transmission will get it going again for now, but what's going to break next? I can guarantee you this, whatever it is, it will be expensive. 140,000 mile domestic cars are almost always like teenagers-they will nickle-and-dime you to death! How can I fix my tachometer on my 1992 Honda Accord ?
I would go with the rebuilt trannie, only because you could probably buy another used 1996 Lumina Van for $2500.00. Used Lumina APVs are everywhere and are always cheap.KYB GR-2 or AGX in NY? Please help.?
the rebuilt trany would be fine. Why is water freezing in the car radiator bad?
i would say your pretty lucky you've gotton 140,000 miles out of it. i think you've gotton your moneys worth already. if you put a tranny in it rebuilt or not thats alot of money to put in something with that many miles. i would say get another car. just my 2cents..why must a cylinder head be tork loaded in a certain sequence when done up?
you could always go to an auto recycler and maybe consider a used one. you might be able to find the same transmission from a newer car that had low miles. the auto recycler might also offer a warranty, even on a used part. my husband got a used alternator from a recycler and they actually gave him a lifetime warranty on it, so when it puked he went and got another used one.More Questions & Answers ...
