What would short a fusible link?
check/tighten battery cables, and get rid of any corrosion on them. also check the ground cable where it makes contact to the frame. if it cranks over easy but doesnt fire, ur not getting juice, or enough juice, to the plugs. check and make sure all wires are seated snug on the plugs and distrubutor.does this happen in damp or wet conditions? u might have a hairline crack in the coil. if u spray the coil with wd-40, and it fires up, there's a crack in the coil, and moisture is preventing the coil from sending juice to the distributor and plugs. replace it.
see if there's carbon scoring on the inside of the distributor. heavy scoring can cause hard starts. spark plug wires could be cracking and trying to short out. easiest way to see it is when its in a dark place. when the engine is running, bad wires will have a blue glow, especially close to the plugs. make sure the plugs are gapped right also.

retighten all your battery cables - also, you might have gotten a bad starter.Problems with my 1998 Pontiac Tran Sport?
check your fuel filter, or you may have a fuel pump problemHow about the distributer cap, rotor and spark plug wires? All these should be changed when doing a tune-up.
Look inside your cap for signs of wear or tracks running down the sides. Make sure all contact points are clean and dry.
does anyoneknow how much it will cost to fix a reverse in an automatic 97 mazda millenia?
Notfair nailed it. It must be spark related. It APPARENTLY isn't the battery connections, since it's turning over, and the fuel filter would be a problem while running.Like he said, check the wires, replace plugs if you haven't. If this has an integrated coil in the cap, that could be bad as well.
