I have a 2001 mercury 15 hp and when i start the motor after about 3 mins the oil filter gasket blows out. The motor was submerged in brakish water for about 8 hours. There is a new carb, starter. There is no visiable rust on the motor and many of the internals i have seen so far are clean. Is there any pressure relieve valves that may have clogged causing this. Otherwise the motor runs very well except this one problem. Also does anyone know where i can get an exploded diagram of the motor

Yes, it should have a spring loaded bypass valve in the oil filter housing.It must be stuck.

#1 check the crankcase breather for blockage.
