Question:
I have a 97 Honda Accord and I'm planning on getting my timing belt replaced at this mechanic shop that i've gone to a couple times before for other things. They have a coupon for timing belt replacement for $89.95. and on the coupon it says parts extra. I called and asked about the price and they had told me that the $89.95 covers the labor and parts. Is this a good price to have my timing belt replaced? I was going to go to the Honda dealership to have it done but they said it would cost about $700 including water pump and other things. and $400 just for the timing belt. I'm just going with the most affordable because I need to have this done right away and I don't have $400 right now. So if someone could let me know if that price is good, and if they are going to charge me for parts, does anyone know an estimate on how much a timing belt would cost? And i've never really had any problems with this mechanic shop before.

I have a 97 chevy Z-71 4x4 replaced transmission at 135K miles,new transmission broke in 2 pieces?
$89 is a great deal.Do not go to honda for it. This isn't something that you need to know the insides and outs of the engine to get it right. It is fairly straight forward and most mechanices can handle it. I'd defintely recomend changing the water pump at the same time, since they do tend to go bad, and you will save youself the labor price again in the long run.
Belt and waterpump run about $200 anywhere you go(besides honda). They may have the coupon confused though because if $89 covered the parts and labor they would be losing money.
Which direction the crankshaft center bolt shall be turn to loose?
$ 200 US Dollars.but ask for water pump replacement and new belt tensioner.
since, they gonna have it right there.( and only add for the new parts.)
89.95 ? deal!

My car is stuck in 3rd gear? Besides the obvious (taking it in) what can I do?
seems like a fare priceHow do you know when your radiator needs flushed?
When changing a timing belt it is a good idea to change the tensioner (10-40$), and the water pump(30-100$) while you're in there. The belt itself only costs about 20$ Make sure you buy a lifetime belt, don't get a crap belt to save a couple bucks. Labor varies by vehicle, but I'd say 89 dollars is WAY cheap. If this shop you are going to go to is reputable and guarantees their work, then go for it. 89 labor plus 20 in parts =110 plus 30 for incidentals. About 150 then at that shop. Thats a great price.having problems with top speed and rpm on a 2000 kia sportage?
It's not mandatory to change the water pump, or the tensioner, just recommended. If you are limited on money, and the car doesn't have tons of miles on it (less than 100,000) than I would say just do the belt.
Hope this helps and good luck!
I have a 1998 dodge intrepid and after driving the car for about 1/2 hour the oil light comes?
I would say 89.00 dollars for labor is a little much .The belt alone is probably 54.00 and i would change the tensioner and if there is an idler no matter what it can cause problems down the road that could lead to a bigger problem like a engine . If I am not mistaken there is a couple parts suppliers out there that sell kits . Of course the prices i gave you are Canadian even some labour prices around here are 78.00 pr hr so watch yourself theres some pocket pickers out there ! Email me if you need more info .This comes from someone who has spent 10yrs as an auto tech the dealers prices is right it is about $700.00 dollars and here is why, when you replace the timing belt it is wise to replace the water pump and timing belt tensioner and all drive belts also because, if lets say the water pump is not replaced and left in and has to be replaced later you will be paying again to remove the timing belt because the water pump is driven by the timing belt and last i remember doing a timing belt and replacing a water pump took 4.8 hrs of work to do so for $89.95 i would ask what am i really getting for my money. You do not need to go to the dealer to have the work done just a good tech that understands Honda cars and how the timing show bet set because if your timing is set incorrectly you will have a lack of power. Plus do not let it go for too long because if the timing belt does break on a Honda that type of car is know for what is called a piston clap were the valve hit the top of the piston and then it will cost about $1500.00 to replace the head on your engine.
