Question:
I have a '90 Ford Tempo, and this morning after I started it up, there was no heat. The fan wasn't blowing at all, and the car didn't sound exactly right. It wasn't plugged in last night and the temperature got down to -20 celsius. I looked under the hood and the coolant was all topped up, so I slammed the hood shut. As soon as I did that, the car went back to sounding normal and the fan was blowing hot air, working perfectly. What could be the problem? Is it possible something was frozen or a hose was crimped and when I slammed the hood it worked itself out? I know it's an old car, but it loves the winter.

did ya let the engine warm up? takes the engine 5-10 min. to warm up. was the sound a kind of growling noise and/or squeal? if so the blower motor could be getting wore out. if its original i'd bet it's close to wore out. congrats on keeping a tempo alive this long. they were almost wore out from the factory.
