I have a 95 Grand Am 2.3L and the cooling fan starts immediateley upon starting the car. What could cause this?

Either the fan relay is stuck or the sensor is bad. On the engine near the upper radiator hose connection you should be able to see two sensors screwed in the head and/or the thermostat housing. One is the temperature guage, other is the fan switch. Unplug the wires while the engine is cold and see if the fan stops. There should be 2 engine fan relays mounted under the hood resembling small black boxes about 1"x1" square. One is for when you have a/c on the other is when the engine gets hot. Change places with the relays and if the fan stops, the relay is bad.

You could have a bad FCM ( Fan Control Module). It would cause the fan to run erratically ( VERY Loud, Non-Stop, Keeps running after the car is shut off).
