Check engine light comes on and car starts jerking?

When your motor is running you are spinning the pump to create pressure. The high pressure side of your power steering system runs about 60 psi. I would check into the high pressure side hose or the return hose. Where the high pressure side goes into the pump their is a o ring that can wear out to. Usually if its the high pressure side it will squirt out and your engine will start smoking because of the fluid hitting the hot engine

Engine stalling.?

check and make sure that your pump lid is on tight, if it is on tight and keeps leaking you may have a crack in the pump or in the line. Look while the engine is running and see where it is leaking from. Does your steering not feel the same as it normally does? you need to be sure to keep the pump full so you don't burn the pump up.

what causes a 1973 chevorlet pick up not to be firing?

It means that your seals ,hoses, or connections are leaking .They do it when you start it because that's when the system builds pressure that forces the fluid through the crack or hole.
