I have a 1992 Ford Ranger 4x4 and having problems with the transmission. I was driving down the highway and came to a red light, I stopped when it turned green my truck would not move. I always drive in overdrive. So I put it in drive, reverse 1st and 2nd gear and would not move. I finally got it off the road. Couple hours later went back to my truck and it moved fine.Then I stopped and put it in park then overdrive and again would not move. So I waited a bit and put it i drive and it worked. Everytime I put it in overdrive it wont move. I have to let it sit then put the truck in drive and it goes. Overdrive will not work.

Take it to a transmission shop and have them diagnose the problem, Transmissions are a black art to work on, you have to know what you are doing to diagnosis it properly. Not anyone can diagnosis a transmission problem. I work in a garage and every so often we get a car in for a transmission problem, all we do is get one of the guys from the transmission shop across the street to come over and take a look at it, then we talk to the customer and see what they want to do, if any work is done, we move it over to teh transmission shop. The technicians at my shop are not stupid people, they are very smart, but they do not have enough experiance in transmissions, there is too much to go worng.
