I was thinking about going to some sort of technical college to be an Auto mechanic. Is that weird for a girl to want to be one? I like stuff that deals with cars and trucks and things for auto body repair. I would feel really odd if I were to take the class and go walking in to find out I am the only girl in the class.

I have known at least three ASE Certified Master Technicians who happened to be female. Your skills, knowledge and desire to be the best make you a top-notch tech, not your gender.
As to being the only girl in class, I recommend a bit of tolerance and patience regarding your classmates, most of whom have never seen a girl get greasy hands. Your participation in the class is , however, a real chance to shine.

Most of the guys I have talked to over the years respect technical knowledge, and also think that girls who like cars are "hot" ;).

People may look at you a little differently because it is a " male" field, but we can become anything we want...if people do not like it, it is their problem not yours... no different than a man wanting to quit work to stay home and raise his kids... i see nothing wrong with that either!

No it's not weird at all. These days you probably won't be the only girl in class, but even if you are, I hope you won't let that stop you! The world needs more good female mechanics!No offense to men mechanics, but women can make superior mechanics. Women, by their nature, tend to pay more attention to fine details then men. Also, unlike their male counterparts, women tend the ACTUALLY read the directions. An old joke I like to use as an example is..."What does a man need the directions for?"...The answer, "To tell him why the damn thing won't go back together." I have been selling auto parts for almost 15 years and I can honestly say women make as good of mechanics as men.

First thing i have to say to you is ROCK ON girl i salute your ambitions and am very supportive of female mechanics when i was in tech school there were 2500 guys and 10 girls but i will tell you that most of the females i know that are mechanics are great mechanics. dont worry about what guys in tech school say or think about women in the field just work hard and show them that you are as good or better then them and have you never checked out spike tv ? extreme 4x4 has a female mechanic as a host. i recomend being a mechanic to any one that has the skill and natural inclination to take stuff apartabsoloutly not!!! you would be amazed at how many women take up that field in the military
