1994 Cutlass Supreme spits and sputters?

Question:
I just acquired this vehicle and don't know much of its history. When I start it, it has a gas smell and while holding my hands at the end of the exhaust I can feel it spitting/sputtering. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

The smell of gas could be unrelated to what you are feeling at the tail pipe. A cars engine will "pulse" the exhaust out. You may just be feeling that. If you have a fuel leak, i would suggest looking at the fuel injectors, as i have seen many of those leak also the fuel injector orings can leak too. Check the fuel lines carefully, and the fuel filter, and filler tube. If you are not certain if the car is running correclty, i would suggest taking it to a certified technician for him/her to look at for you.

Might have a gas leak, since this is fuel injected a small gas leak would cause it to run rough. You might also have a plugged catalitic converter.
