I have a 2001 Ford Escape with about 89k miles on it. Recently when i turn the car on when it is cold, it starts shaking and "jumping" like if the engine dosent havve enough power. When I tap the gas, it goes back to normal but then 2 seconds later it starts again. I took it to a mechanic and he changed the fuel filter thinking this would help the problem, but it didn't. Also the car accelerated 2 times while in Park and without me stepping on the gas, when i chagend the gear to Drive it stopped, but when i put back in Park it started again, also when I changed the gear to Reverse it accelarated with a little bit of force. Wht do you guys think I should do?

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere, either from a cracked or collapsed PCV hose, or the upper to lower intake gaskets need to be replaced. The symptom you describe, would definitely show up when it's cold outside. Is the 'check engine' light on?You've just answered your own question then. The 'check engine' light being on would probably be for the codes P0171 & P0174, bank #1 and bank #2 system lean, which would cause EXACTLY what you describe. Don't let anyone try to 'sell' you parts you don't need. Purchasing the part your mechanic mentioned from Ford will fix your problem.

If it does the acceleration thing only when its cold, it is trying to warm up. If it does it erratically, I would think something with the timing maybe?I have a 95 dodge intriped wrecked --is the core support 3 pcs?
