Car won't turn on unless jumped, battery and alternator tested fine at Sears, 03 Taurus. What is the problem?

Question:
I have 2003 Ford Taurus SES. The battery light came on a few times so the first time it would not start up I took it to Sears. There, it got checked out that everything was fine. From then on every morning my car would not start unless jumped. Instantly when jumped it would work and would continue to start up several times after in the next few hours. But after long periods of time ( 5 or more hours) it does not work. I feel like it is the battery or alternator but the battery is fairly recent. It is an Everlast battery from Walmart. I do not know what to do from this point as everything has checked out to be fine at Sears. What do I do? as well as what could potentially be the problem?

Your alternator needs to be replaced. If you want your car fixed, spend the extra money it costs to get the proper Ford/Motorcraft alternator. It's worth it, believe me! I have heard too many horror stories of defective alternators from the aftermarket being installed. You get what you pay for. Hope this helps.

You took it to SEARS.... go elsewhere.

If the battery light came on then SOMETHING is wrong. Assuming the fan belt is tight I would say the alternator is going bad. A bad battery won't make the battery light come on (ironically). You could also have something draining the battery after you shut it off. Like a light in the trunk or glove compartment. Buy a test light and unhook the positive battery terminal. Run the test lamp from the positive battery post to the unhooked battery cable. If the light comes on then you have a drain somewhere. Remove fuses one at a time until light goes out to isolate where the drain is.

I had the same problem, check your battery cables and post. The jump just gives it enough power to get the starter going.

How to remove a battery from a v-max for recharging?

have it checked for parasitc draw (an electrical device that is using power when it should not) if that checks out good, replace the battery, the reserve capacity may be to low for your vehicle, check the voltage after installing the new battery. you should have 13.5 to 14.6 volts. if lower than 13.5 replace the alternator.

Ok 2 likely problems.

1. There is something in the car that is running the battery down, draining the voltage.

2. Battery is shorted internally, which is draining it's charge.

I want to get a cold air intake for my 06 mustang GT... which brand and modle are most fit ?

Test 1: Drive the car, when you get home remove the ground terminal from the battery. Leave overnight. Place terminal back on the car when you start it hours later and see if it starts.

Test 2. There is always a draw on the battery from the car, the keep alive memory for the computers memory is an example. At night disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, and wait for 3 minutes. Touch the terminal to the battery... if there is a large spark...there is in all probability a draw.
We mechanics use a 12volt test light to measure draw(amongst other things) If the light is bright... look around for the cause.. if light is dull there is no large draw. Make sure the doors and lights are off .

Why would my ABS light come on after a complete new brake job on my 1993 Mercedes Sel 400?

Your Alternator output is good. It is charging the battery, and is providing voltage to run the car. But it may be shorted internally causing the draw. I have seen that happen
Good luck.. I hope this helps.

Possibly a bad cable, or bad ground, or maybe a slow drain on the battery.

Many parts stores will check your battery and alternator for free. You could take it to one of those places for another test to make sure it isn't the battery.

Best to take it to the dealership or a local repair shop that actually does repair work on cars, not a department store or quick-lube type shop. They can check out the entire electrical system and see exactly what's going on with it.

Stalling and hard starting on 99 Expedion?

The starting problem is a bad connection and the best way to check is with a volt meter, it will tell you exactly what it is.
The next time the car doesn't start before you do any thing else put a meter on the battery posts and you should get 12 to 12.5 volts, any thing less means your battery is discharged or bad. If your voltage is 12 or more try starting the car if it doesn't start and the voltage stays 12 you have a bad connection, when you boost the car the connection doesn't matter because the cable gives the power to start. if the voltage drops below 6 - 7 volts at the battery post that means your battery is weak and might need replacing or a charge.
once the car starts you should get 13.5 to 14.5 volts any thing else means your alternator is not charging the battery.
