Do your headlights work? or are they dim?
Try turning on the lights first, THEN starting the car. This will really drain the battery and you will see the lights go DIMMER, and maybe hear NO CLICK at all.

I also agree with florrie f.... next answer below mine. Tapping on the SOLENOID, not the starter motor, will help the internal spring slide into position. This usually works 2 or 3 times until the solenoid is completely defective.

Starter motor, quite cheap to replace. You can for the time being get it going by locating the starter motor under the bonnet and tapping it hard with something. Had to do this many a time with various cars, seriously it does work, why I don't know but it does, and when I say tap I mean more of a thump usually with a hammer.you have a flat or neary flat battery
