I would suggest going with a full engine management system such as pectel or haltec. MSD and Tec3 make a stand alone ignition system which will allow you to simply add a crank sensor and roluctor wheel to some applications and then progressively add to the system with other analog inputs allowwing you to map out your ignition. the problem is that by the time you spend enough to make this route worthwile you have almost spent as much as you would have with a full standalone ECU.
