So why are 4-cylinders labeled as "fuel economy" when they actually do worse in MPG than some 8-cylinders

Yes very common pot metal heater hose connector you can pound a large enough screw driver blade with square shaft into it and turn the screwdriver with a cresent wrench. Or use a hacksaw blade and cut into the remaining pot metal two places 180 degrees apart just to the threads then hammer and cold chisel the parts inward the pot metal will crack grab with needle nose pliers and work the two pieces out. Good luck happens every time the manifold or heater hoses are removed

You can very carefully get a drill bit about the same size as the hole. Drill into the center of the pipe and when it grips put your drill into reverse and it just might unscrew it.

Truck making a whining sound?

Be careful If you use the hacksaw blade method, be careful not to damage the threads. If you use the chisel method, be careful not to damage the threads or break the heater. If you use an easy out, it is fairly safe but can still damage the threads so use just enough pressure to get a grip. If you use ANY method be VERY careful not to let the pieces drop into the heater. Sometimes things are more loose than you might imagine.
