Question:
I was on the 405 freeway (scary big fwy in LA) when my alternator died... i ahd it towed to the nearest repair shop cuz i just wanted off the road... they said a new alternator plus labor for my 2002 beetle would be $500. Does this sound about right?

Why does my 95' mit. mirage cut off if the motor is not rev?
I'm going to assume that you aren't going to even attempt to fix it yourself. An alternator will set you back around $175, labor around where you are is probably around $120 an hour at the dealership. Alternators are usually a pretty quick changeout, especially for a seasoned mechanic. I believe you could get a better price if you wanted, but if you are going to get your car serviced at a certified dealer then perhaps its worth paying a premium knowing your car is in good hands.yes
Anyone know of a good welding guide book?
Hope this helped
and if you get the change place leave comments or sign my guestmap...thanx :)

what octane gas should a 1998 chevy 1500 series truck perform best?
Ouch! Sounds about right for a dealership.yea with the tow and labor and part sounds like your gettin a deal.. if you know anything about cars, there not rocket science to do yourself... anyways yeah its an ok deal
which is better, pennzoil quick change, or jiffy lube? or are both equally bad?
I went to an auto parts store and bought an alternator for around $130 for my 98 Chevy Cavalier and then a garage put it in for just $35 so I don't really know. My brother's alternator went out on his 2000 Ford Ranger he bought an alternator at auto parts store too and paid just a little more than me but his installation was cheaper.yes it sounds about right. but here is the problem the alternator is roughly $150. the problem is that you bought the part through the shop. I replaced the alternator on my 96 sable for only $175 (price for the alternator).
What does putting in a higher stall converter do?
go to autozone or closes parts place an alternator should range between 85 to 140 dollars.replace it your self two bolts and a plug wire.my 8 year old nephew can swap one out...I have a 2000 Plymouth Voyager that I'm starting to have problems with?? HELP!! HELP!!?
the alternator from a shop will be about 300... and install should be about 70.. i have a program that most shops use called ALLDATA.. it says it is only .8 hours to do.. and almost 300 for the cheapest alternator.. you might save money if you go to an auto parts store like Auto Zone and buy the part.. then just have the shop put it in.. you save 50% of the price of the part due to shop mark upThats about right for a dealer installed one.A do-it-yourselfer could do it for about 1/3 that.
my civic has a rattling in the front end that occurs when im moving?
Yes that sounds about right. If you can do the work yourself it will only cost you about 150 to 200 dollars. Check the labor by hour also. It should only take at the most one hour. I just replaced the alternator on my superduty in thirty minutes. Most shops charge you by the book time. Which means if the book says two hours you pay for two hours even if they are done in one.Yea because they want $350 of that for labor only! You can do it yourself just buy a service manual! If I can change my oil, spark plugs etc. you can do this. Good Luck!
what is the TCC in the gearbox, and when to tell it is malfunctioning?
The alternator should cost about 170 to 200 dollars, to replace it should take anywhere for 45 minutes to an hour which usaully runs at 50 dollars and hour so you should only expect to pay under $300 for them to replace your alternator with a new one. Add in the towing costs and you could end up paying $500 dollars but just for the replacement of the alternator I would not pay more than $300 or I would say I was being price gouged because I was in a bad situation where my only alternative was to pay them or have no car. Will amonia strip the paint off a car?
no way to much you must be trying to get it done at the dealer ship huh? get it done from a regularr shop.sounds good for a new alternator, maybe a little pricey for a rebuilt one
