Just an idea here. The narrow V6 Ford engine used in the TVRs Rovers Mustangs Rangers. It started as a 2.8, there was a 2.9 version and later it was the push-rod version of their 4 liter engine in the Rangers and Explorers up till 1999. I'd think the 4.0 would be ideal for several reasons. it's inexpensive, compact, reliable, and fairly powerful. It should also hook up with the engine mounts and other transmissions and such that were used in the TVR as well as the Mazda transmission Ford uses.I just replaced a bad starter in My 1988 Jeep, but now it just wont turn over. The triumph owners club magazine is called the Currier I believe, and would be able to assist you in your quest, the sec was helpful when i contacted him a few years ago, relating to a vittess engine, a company called SOC at Headcorn in Kent (UK) carry a vast stock of older triumph parts at reasonable prices, one contributor is referring to the O series engine I think which is a reliable unit (Perkins Eng), expert advice would be required on fitting, and necessary mods, I believe all but the very first spitfires had the Rolls Royce Griffin engine in them, I have seen a car with one in, however the clutches don't seem to last long.AUTO A/C PROBLEMS...ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED! Why do you want to go though all the head ache of fitting a different engine. These jobs are a nightmare and every little thing turns out to be vastly complicated from mating up the bell housing to getting the engine mounts right. Best thing is to uprate the old 1500 spitfire engine. All depending on what you want to do. If you want more power or more reliability. You can rebore the engine change cylinder heads, different carbs, balance the engine, fit electronic ignition in fact a whole host of things that will in the long run make the car much easier to keep running and to complete as a job. I would say upgrade the old engine rather than try to change it out.More Questions & Answers ...
